My father has been making wine for as long as I can remember. I guess you could say it’s a family legecy. Both my grandfathers also make wine. Although, I don’t think their’s is as good. We mostly make blackberry or grape. On occasion we would make something new if a friend of my father’s asks him to try to make something else. Last year he made watermelon wine for my boyfriends family. It is very potent. There was a lot of alcohol in to make it sweet. I personaly think that my dad makes the best blackberry. Although, I don’t really have anything to compare it to. One year he also made plum wine for a coworker of his. We can not sell the wine because my dad does not haveĀ a licence to sell it, so we give it away. He is very good at it.
That sounds very cool, Bailey! Is it difficult to make by the way? When I hear of people making wine, I see them smashing grapes up with their feet like you see in the movies. Sorry, that’s just me though. Call me weird, but that’s what comes to mind for me.
Do you guys make any graphic labels for the bottles or are they just bottled up and given away?
Actually we do smash grapes with our feet. It’s not that dificult to make. First obviously you have to pick the grapes. then you have to peal them which sucks. Then you smash them to get the juice out. then you have to seal the juice in a five gallon bucket for about 3 mounths I think and add sugar. The more sugar you put in the more alcohol is in it and the sweeter the wine is. And you also add yeast. My dad does most the work so I don’t know all of how it works, but I know the gist of it.
We used to make our own labels for the wine and give them to people. My mom used to make the labels but then stoped doing it. So we started to give them without the labels. Last semester though the other students in my desktop publishing class created wine labels for us. And my mom and dad picked their favorits to use.
That was fun. I think the whole class enjoyed it and did a great job too. And I’m still waitin on my bottle of wine.
You give out free wine from time to time?
Just kidding! You guys must have a lot at home that’s stored away. Must be nice not having to buy the expensive stuff when you make your own at home.
